Time tracking on site
Time tracking in construction: straight from the site
Today you only know your hours once the paper slips come in — days or weeks later, and then the office still has to retype the lot. With AutoCheckIn, every arrival and departure on site is there straight away: recorded automatically the moment it happens, per site and per person. No more written-down hours, just real ones.

How it works on most sites today
The slip arrives too late
Timesheets and job sheets come in at the end of the week — or at the end of the month. Until then you don't know what a site has cost you, and you can't invoice it either.
The office retypes everything
Every paper slip has to be entered into the admin by hand. Double the work, and every time something is retyped an error can creep in — a 7 that becomes a 9, a site that gets mixed up.
Written from memory
The hours get filled in on Friday evening, from memory. What ends up on paper is an estimate — not a record. And estimates rarely work out in your favour.
Hours written down aren't hours worked
Anyone who writes their hours down afterwards rounds them. Arriving at 7.58 becomes “half seven”, leaving at 15.41 becomes “four o'clock”. Nobody means any harm — but it happens every day, on every site, and rarely in your favour.
On the paper slip
07:30 — 16:00
Filled in on Friday evening, from memory. Neatly rounded.
8h30 written down
Recorded on site
07:58 — 15:41
Captured automatically on arrival and departure. The moment it happened.
7h43 present
Do the maths
A quarter of an hour too much per day, for a crew of 15, 220 working days a year, at €45 an hour: well over €37,000 a year. For hours that never happened.

With subcontractors on time and materials it's even more direct: you pay the hours on their timesheet. Without your own record you have nothing to set that invoice against — and every doubt turns into a he-said-she-said argument.
What changes when the site records itself
AutoCheckIn records every arrival and every departure automatically — the phone simply stays in their pocket. So what's in your overview isn't what someone remembers, but what actually happened on site:
- Arrival and departure recorded the moment they happen, on the site itself
- Live overview: see today how many hours have gone into each site
- No more retyping slips — filter and export to Excel
- Put subcontractors' hours next to their invoice
- Invoice on real figures, without waiting for the last slip
Faster invoicing, more accurate job costing
No more waiting for the last slip before you can invoice. This week's hours are there this week — filtered by site, by person or by period, ready to export to Excel. So your invoice goes out weeks earlier, and you see per site what it really cost rather than what was written down.
To be fair: what it is and what it isn't
AutoCheckIn records attendance on site: when someone arrives and when they leave. It doesn't track breaks or tasks carried out. For most contractors that's exactly the piece that's missing today — the objective framework you set timesheets and invoices against.
And your people? They are never tracked off site. No routes, no location history — only the moment of arrival and departure. That's good for trust within your crew, and it's set out in black and white in our privacy policy.
And you're in line with the 2027 law straight away
From 1 April 2027, every worker on large construction sites has to register themselves anyway, in real time, both in and out — Check In at Work (CIAW) is getting stricter. With AutoCheckIn, that obligation pays you back straight away: the same registration that keeps you compliant with the NSSO (RSZ/ONSS) is also your time tracking. One system, two problems solved.
Frequently asked questions about time tracking on site
Can I see what time my workers arrive on site and leave?
Yes, live. Every arrival and every departure is recorded automatically the moment it happens, and appears straight away in your overview — per site, per person, with the exact time. No need to wait for the timesheets to come in: you can see today how many hours have gone into each site.
Can I check my subcontractors' hours?
Yes. You add subcontractors and freelancers just like your own people, and their attendance is recorded automatically too. When a time-and-materials invoice comes in, you put it next to the hours recorded on your site. No more arguments based on memory: the times are there in black and white.
Does AutoCheckIn replace our paper timesheets and job sheets?
For the hours, yes: arrival and departure on site are recorded automatically, and you export everything to Excel in one click for payroll, invoicing or job costing. AutoCheckIn doesn't record materials or tasks carried out — it records attendance, and that's exactly the part that most often goes wrong on paper.
Does the app also record breaks or tasks?
No. AutoCheckIn records when someone arrives on site and when they leave — the time they're present. It doesn't track breaks or tasks. For most contractors that's exactly what's missing today: an objective basis to set the written-down hours against.
Is this the same as the mandatory Check In at Work registration?
It's the same registration, useful twice over. AutoCheckIn is built for the mandatory Check In at Work registration (CIAW) on large construction sites, which from 1 April 2027 has to happen in real time and in both directions. That same automatic check-in and check-out gives you your time tracking per site and per person straight away — with no extra work.
Are my people tracked off site?
No. The app only records the moment of arrival and departure on site. Off site, nobody is followed — no routes, no location history. That's set out in our data processing agreement and our privacy policy.
What if someone forgets to clock out?
That can hardly happen: the app notices by itself when someone leaves the site and records the departure automatically. Nobody has to press a button or remember to. So your hours stay accurate, even on a Friday afternoon.
